Hunt for Israeli supporters after a football match, coordinated assaults throughout the city
8 nov. 2024·Amsterdam
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Following a football match between an Israeli team and a local club, Israeli supporters were chased through the streets of Amsterdam by groups coordinating via messaging apps, who tracked them down, checked their papers, and beat them on bridges and near train stations.
The scenes, filmed and broadcast around the world, caused considerable shock in the Netherlands, the country from which the proportion of Jews deported during the war was the highest in Western Europe. The city council and the Dutch government acknowledged the failure of public order measures, and the event fueled debate across Europe on the protection of Israeli nationals and Jewish institutions during sporting events.
