Attack — Tel-Aviv, Jaffa quarter

Two armed men open fire on passengers of a tram car and on bystanders, in the Jaffa district, south of Tel-Aviv. The attackers are shot down by civilians and police officers.

The attack occurs on the very evening that missile strikes target Israel from Iran, and on the eve of the anniversary of the massacre carried out in the south of the country. Jaffa, an ancient Arab port city incorporated into Tel-Aviv, is one of the country's rare mixed-population neighborhoods: the shooting there has reignited the tensions that emerged during the mixed-city riots a few years earlier, and put to the test an already fragile coexistence.
