Your Data

Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and how to exercise your rights.

Last updated: 14 juillet 2026.

1. Data Controller

The Zakhor platform (zakhor.ai) is published by the Zakhor Collective, an informal, unregistered collective (see the legal notice). For any question regarding your data, write to admin@zakhor.ai.

2. Data We Collect

  • Account: email address and, where applicable, surname/first name provided at registration.
  • Contributions: digitised documents, photographs, accounts and testimonies, objects, and the information you associate with them (names, places, dates) — including data concerning third parties, living or deceased, that you choose to transmit.
  • Technical data: authentication session cookie, language preference (cookie NEXT_LOCALE), and aggregated audience measurements (Vercel Analytics, with no advertising cookie).

3. Purposes & Legal Bases

  • Managing your account and access to the platform — performance of the service.
  • Publishing your contributions in the collective Memory and in the Great Book of your lineage — your consent, obtained at the time of submission.
  • Ensuring security, preventing abuse, and improving the service — legitimate interest.

4. Hosting, Processors & Transfers

Data is hosted in the European Union (Supabase database, region Ireland (eu-west-1)) and served via Vercel. The assisted generation of the Great Book relies on Anthropic's API, to which public elements of the lineage are transmitted (name, variants, notice, linked manuscripts) — never your account data. These providers act as processors; transfers outside the EU may occur, governed by standard contractual clauses.

5. Retention Period

Account data is kept for as long as your account is active. Published contributions are preserved as part of the documentary heritage, unless you request their removal (see §7). You can delete your account at any time from your account page: the content you have deposited remains preserved (see §6).

6. Deposited Content & Account Deletion

The documents you deposit — GEDCOM files, photographs, audio recordings, videos, stories and other contributions — are entrusted to Zakhor to enrich the collective memory in a lasting way. In accordance with the deposit terms, they remain preserved by the platform, including after your account is closed.

You can delete your account at any time from the My account page: your profile, your access and your subscriptions (newsletter, book follows) are permanently erased, and the deposited content is simply dissociated from your identity. To request the removal of a specific document, write to us (see §7).

7. Your Rights

In accordance with the GDPR, you have a right of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, and portability. To exercise them, write to admin@zakhor.ai; we respond within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL.

8. Cookies

Zakhor uses only strictly necessary cookies (authentication session, language preference) and a privacy-respecting audience measurement, with no advertising cookie nor third-party tracking.
