Attack — Tel-Aviv, bus 5 (Dizengoff Street)
19 oct. 1994·Tel-Aviv, bus 5 (rue Dizengoff)
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
A man boarded the number 5 bus on the Dan line, packed during rush hour, on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv, and detonated his charge. The roof of the vehicle was torn off; those killed were workers, students, and soldiers on leave.
It was the first suicide bombing carried out in the heart of Tel Aviv, less than a year after the signing of the Oslo Accords, and it changed the way Israeli public opinion viewed them. Dizengoff Street, a commercial artery and symbol of the secular city, would be struck again less than two years later.
