Attack — Tel-Aviv, bus 4

The number four bus travels up Allenby Avenue, in the center of Tel-Aviv, during the hours when shops are closing. The charge explodes near a busy stop, at the height of the second Intifada, a period when Israeli public transport becomes the preferred target of suicide bombings.

The attack is part of a series striking the same line and the same streets within a few months of one another, leading municipalities to alter routes, post guards at bus doors, and search bags at café entrances. The method of operation — a carrier of explosives boarding a crowded vehicle — is the one that claimed the most civilian lives in Israel during those years.
