Attack — Tel-Aviv, Dizengoff Center
4 mars 1996·Tel-Aviv, Dizengoff Center
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
On the eve of Purim, at the hour when costumed children stream out of school and crowds press before the shops, a man blows himself up at the pedestrian crossing in front of Dizengoff Center, Tel-Aviv's large shopping mall. Most of those killed are women and children.
It is the third attack in nine days, following the two explosions on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem. The country enters mourning at the very moment it was meant to celebrate; the shattered storefront of the shopping center becomes the defining image of that week.
