Attack — Jerusalem, bus 20 (Kiryat Menahem)
21 nov. 2002·Jérusalem, bus 20 (Kiryat Menahem)
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
In November 2002, a suicide bomber detonated himself on a bus on line 20, in Kiryat Menahem, a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The vehicle was heading toward the city center at the hour when children go to school; several of those killed were schoolchildren, and the driver perished at his wheel.
The attack particularly struck public opinion because it targeted a school route in a modest neighborhood, far from symbolic locations. It led to strengthened protection of lines serving schools, and fueled the Israeli debate on the construction of the separation barrier, then underway.
