The south and east quarters of Amsterdam are sealed off at dawn and their Jewish inhabitants taken away.
After the old quarter, the hunt moves to the southern and eastern neighborhoods of Amsterdam, where the most recently arrived families had settled, many of them refugees from Germany and Austria. As individual summonses had ceased to produce their effect, the police arrest street by street, relying on census records. Those still holding an exemption stamp are taken away like the others; the Amsterdam Jewish Council loses the greater part of its staff within a matter of weeks.
