The Shoah (1939–1945)

Final liquidation of the Lwów ghetto

Juin 1943·Lwów

Toll
plusieurs milliers

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The last inhabitants of the ghetto are shot or sent to the Janowska camp; the ghetto is set on fire.

The closed quarter of Lwów had been transformed, following the great action of the previous year, into a sealed camp under the authority of the Janowska labour camp. Its final liquidation is carried out at the beginning of the summer.

The inhabitants are shot on the spot or sent to Janowska; faced with the resistance of groups entrenched in cellars and sewers, the quarter is burned down house by house. A few families will survive hidden in the city's drainage system until liberation.
