The Shoah (1939–1945)

Great Action of the Lwów Ghetto

Août 1942·Lwów

Toll
~50 000

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The great action of August empties the ghetto toward Bełżec in three weeks.

The enclosed quarter of Lwów was, after those of Varsovie and Łódź, the most populous in occupied Poland. The great action of the summer emptied it in three weeks, by daily convoys to Bełżec.

The selections took place at the crossing of a railway bridge, where work certificates were examined and many were turned away on the spot. What remained of the quarter was thereafter transformed into a closed camp and liquidated the following year.
