rabbis summoned to answer the Frankists before the archbishop, under threat of a new ritual murder accusation

Under the authority of the Archbishop of Lwów, the rabbis of the province are summoned to appear and publicly answer the theses of the Frankists, among which is the assertion that the Talmud demands Christian blood. To refuse to come was to concede the point to the accusers; to come was to plead against a capital accusation before a tribunal that was not one's own.

The Frankists subsequently received baptism in large numbers, Jacob Frank at their head, before the ecclesiastical authorities, distrustful, had him imprisoned at Częstochowa. The disputation remains one of the most singular episodes in Jewish history: a blood accusation formulated by a movement that had itself emerged from Judaism.
