The Shoah (1939–1945)

Mandatory census of Jews in the Netherlands

janv. 1941·Pays-Bas

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The occupant imposes the registration of every person of Jewish descent; the file will serve for deportations.

A mandatory census is imposed on the Jews of the Netherlands: each person must register with their municipality and pay a registration tax. The registers, maintained with the meticulous precision of Dutch civil administration and cross-referenced with a central file, give the occupier a nominative and residential knowledge of unparalleled accuracy in Western Europe. It is on these that, the following year, the summonses for the deportation convoys will be issued.
