A man opened fire on customers at a bar on rue Dizengoff, the café-lined street of Tel-Aviv, on a Thursday evening. The attacker fled and triggered a manhunt lasting several hours that kept the city under lockdown until morning.
The attack was the third in two weeks, following Beer-Sheva and Bnei Brak, and the most symbolic: rue Dizengoff embodies Israeli nightlife, and it had already been struck by a suicide bombing at a nearby intersection in the mid-nineties. The overnight pursuit, followed live by the entire country, produced a shock comparable to that of previous periods of attacks.
