Attack — Elad

Attackers armed with axes and a knife assault passersby in a park and on the streets of Elad, a religious city on the coastal plain, on the evening of Independence Day. They flee and are not apprehended until after several days of pursuit.
The people killed were fathers of large families, leaving together several dozen orphans: this fact gave the attack a particular resonance in the Orthodox world, where fundraising on behalf of the families took on a national scale. Elad, built at the end of the twentieth century to accommodate a growing ultra-Orthodox population, closes the series of attacks of that spring.
