Attack — Jerusalem, Neve Yaakov synagogue
27 janv. 2023·Jérusalem, synagogue de Neve Yaakov
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
A man opens fire on worshippers leaving the synagogue of Neve Yaakov, a neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, on a Friday evening, at the end of the Shabbat welcoming service. He flees by car before being shot dead.
The attack takes place in the aftermath of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a coincidence noted by all Israeli officials. It strikes people of all ages, gathered for prayer and not in some ordinary public place: since the attacks on the synagogues of Istanbul, this type of target had been rare in Israel itself. Neve Yaakov, a working-class neighborhood built after the Six-Day War, borders the armistice line.
