The Jewish quarter of Prague was pillaged during the unrest that followed the invasion of the troops from Passau.

An army raised by Archduke Leopold, Bishop of Passau, entered Bohemia and occupied part of Prague; amid the disorder, soldiers and the mob fell upon the Judenstadt. The community was then at its height: it had been home to the Maharal, its printing presses and its Old-New Synagogue, which is the oldest building of this kind still in use in Europe.
