Ferdinand Iᵉʳ ordered the expulsion of the Jews from Bohemia, following the revolt of the estates against him.

He accused them of having supported the rebels, and the royal cities, which had long wished to be rid of them, backed the measure. The expulsion was not fully carried out, and the community of Prague, the largest in central Europe, reconstituted itself; it would experience its golden age under the following reign, with the Maharal and the Hebrew printing houses of the city.
