Riot against the community

1573·Vilnius

Toll
inconnu

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community of Vilnius was attacked during a riot.

The Grand Duchy of Lithuania then had a thriving Jewish community, protected by royal privileges; urban riots there were driven by burghers and guild members, who saw Jewish merchants as competitors exempt from the city's regulations. That same year, the Warsaw Confederation guaranteed in Poland-Lithuania a religious peace unparalleled in Europe at the time.
