Ghetto of Šiauliai

1941-1944·Šiauliai

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

Third city of Lithuania, Šiauliai sees its community confined to two quarters; children are removed from it during a separate action, and the last survivors are deported westward as the front approaches.

The third-largest city in Lithuania, Šiauliai sees its Jewish population confined to two separate ghettos, established in the tannery and railroad suburbs. Those imprisoned are put to work in the leather workshops and at the aerodrome construction sites; children and the elderly are taken away during separate operations, and the remaining inhabitants are deported to a coastal camp when the ghetto is dissolved.
