The city of Grande-Pologne had one of the largest communities in the kingdom and a celebrated school. Its riots were almost always the work of students from the Jesuit colleges, so regularly that the community paid the schools a fee called the écoliers levy to secure peace — an accommodation found in several cities of Poland.
