Riot against the Jewry

1584·Poznań

Toll
inconnu

The Jewish quarter of Poznań was attacked again during a riot.

Schoolboy riots recurred throughout the century in the cities of Poland, and the kings responded with letters of protection addressed to the magistrates, who applied them half-heartedly. The community of Poznań nonetheless continued to grow, and was in the following century one of the four heads of the Council of Four Lands, which governed Polish Jewry.
