The same border unit, supported by local auxiliaries, gathers the Jewish men of the city and shoots them in a neighboring wood; the women and children will be killed in the following weeks.
Kretinga, another small town in western Lithuania close to the border, suffers the same fate as its neighbor within hours. The Jewish men are led out of the town and shot by a security police unit from East Prussia, with the assistance of local auxiliaries; the synagogue and the Jewish quarter are set on fire. The women and children are detained, then murdered in turn during the summer.
