The community of Wurtzbourg was attacked by the Armleder, forty years after having been attacked by Rintfleisch. The city, capital of episcopal Franconia, was home to one of the largest Jewish communities in Germany, with its talmudic school.

The school of Wurtzbourg, where masters whose rulings still carry authority had taught, did not survive the century: between Rintfleisch, the Armleder, and the Black Death, the community was destroyed three times in fifty years. It is this relentless rhythm, more than the scale of any single massacre, that undid Rhenish and Franconian Judaism.
