Armleder Massacres in Franconia
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
the community destroyed
The community of Bischofsheim, in the Rhön, was destroyed by the Armleder. The region, poor and fragmented among small lordships, could offer no organized resistance to the bands.
The Armleder struck, according to the Memorbücher, more than a hundred localities in two years, nearly all of them the size of a small town. The persecution reached here the rural communities — those with neither walls nor council — which had come to constitute a growing share of German Jewry since the great cities had closed their gates to them.
