Attack — Netanya, HaSharon Mall
18 mai 2001·Netanya, HaSharon Mall
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The HaSharon shopping center, in the heart of Netanya, was one of the city's principal gathering places, open to the street and frequented by families.
A man entered it in the middle of the day and detonated his charge at the entrance. Customers were killed and around a hundred people wounded; the façade was blown out.
The same shopping center would be struck a second time four years later, making it one of the rare places in Israel to be targeted twice by a suicide attack. These attacks led to the closure of shopping malls behind metal detectors and systematic searches, which became the norm throughout the country.
