The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

At Munich-Riem airport, a commando unit attacked with grenades a group of passengers on an El Al flight as they crossed the terminal to board the aircraft.

A young man threw himself onto the device and died protecting those around him; several passengers were seriously wounded. The attackers were apprehended on the spot by the Bavarian police.

The attack took place on the same day as the arson attack on the Jewish community center on Reichenbachstrasse, in the same city. This coincidence, never fully explained, made this one of the darkest days of the postwar era for Jews in Germany, two years before the hostage-taking at the Olympic Games.
