A ritual murder accusation turned the city against the Munich community. Pursued, the Jews took refuge in their synagogue, where the crowd set it ablaze.

Bavarian chronicles report that an old woman stood before the flames to hold back those who wished to come out and convert. The synagogue was destroyed; the site was long referred to in the city as the place of the fire.

A community subsequently reconstituted itself in Munich, until the general expulsion from the duchy in the following century. The names of the victims were inscribed in the *Memorbücher* and read in the synagogues of southern Germany.
