The Shoah (1939–1945)
Liquidation of the Minsk ghetto
Oct. 1943·Minsk
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The last great ghetto of Belarus is liquidated, the survivors gassed at Maly Trostenets.
The closed quarter of Minsk, the largest in Belarus, had resisted longer than the others: a clandestine organization was moving groups through to the partisan detachments in the surrounding forests.
It was liquidated in the autumn, its last inhabitants taken to the estate of Maly Trostenets, on the outskirts of the city, and killed by gas van. The pre-war registers of Minsk had already been destroyed; the count of the last inhabitants held within rests on the testimonies of those who escaped.
