Four days of roundups and shootings in the ghetto; some of the victims were killed by gas trucks.

At the end of July 1942, the ghetto of Minsk, in Belarus, endured four days of raids and shootings, through the 31st of the month. Inhabitants were dragged out quarter by quarter, led to the pits of Blagovshtchina or killed on the spot; a portion of the victims was asphyxiated in gas vans, employed there among the first times such methods were used.

The ghetto of Minsk had this singular character: it sheltered, alongside the Jews of the city, convoys brought from the Reich and from Bohemia, and it harbored a clandestine organization linked to the partisans of the surrounding forests, through which several hundred people escaped. The great action of that summer shattered the bulk of the community; the ghetto would be liquidated the following year.
