In Utrecht, the occupier rounded up the Jews of the city and its province. Jewish students, already barred from the university, were arrested along with the others. The city had become a transit point for children entrusted to host families by rescue networks, which had organized a pipeline there; several of its members were caught during those same weeks. The Utrecht community never recovered its pre-war numbers.
