The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Liuboml ghetto

1er octobre 1942·Liuboml

Toll
environ quatre mille morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community of the old town of Volhynia, whose fortified synagogue had dominated the square for centuries, is shot in a single day in open pits outside the town; the columns cross the town under the eyes of the inhabitants.

The community of Liuboml, one of the oldest in Volhynia, is confined in the spring to an enclosed quarter established around the great synagogue, then led in October toward pits dug not far from the town. The columns depart in waves over two days. The town then had a majority Jewish population; afterward only a handful of people remain, hidden in the farms of the surrounding area.
