The Dossin barracks serves as a transit camp for Belgian convoys to Auschwitz.
The Dossin barracks, in Malines, was chosen by the occupier as a transit camp for Belgium: it lay midway between Anvers and Bruxelles, the two cities where the great majority of the country's Jewish population lived, and it was served by rail.
Convoys departed from there toward Auschwitz beginning in the summer. The twentieth of them was attacked in open country by three resistance fighters armed with a lamp and a pair of pliers, who opened a railcar: roughly a hundred deportees escaped — the only known instance of an attack on a deportation convoy in occupied Europe.
