Every Jew in Belgium must wear the star; several burgomasters refuse to distribute it.
The yellow star is imposed on the Jews of Belgium by decree of the military administration. The badges are distributed by the municipalities; that of Bruxelles, whose several aldermen refused, delayed the operation, and the city of Liège similarly hesitated. This refusal by Belgian municipalities to participate in the marking, without equivalent in the Netherlands, is one of the rare acts of administrative resistance in occupied Europe.
