the community destroyed
The wave reached Brabant, and the community of Bruxelles was destroyed. Duke Jean III, who had at first attempted to protect his Jews, did not succeed.
Brabant then witnessed, a generation later, a second affair: that of the so-called desecrated hosts, which served as the foundation for a cult celebrated for centuries in the collegiate church of Sainte-Gudule. The Church of Belgium only acknowledged in the twentieth century that the accusation was without foundation.
