the community destroyed
The community of Königsberg was destroyed during the final wave of massacres of the Black Death, by which point the plague had already swept through most of Europe.
The city was then the seat of the Teutonic Order, on the Baltic. It later passed to Prussia and became the cradle of a renewed German Judaism: it was there that Kant taught, there that the Haskalah found one of its centers, and there that Königsberg saw the birth of the journal that carried the idea of an enlightened Judaism.
