In Nuremberg, the Jewish quarter was destroyed and the neighborhood razed. On the site of the synagogue, the council had the church Notre-Dame built, which still stands there, and transformed the square into a market.

The affair was premeditated: the council had obtained from Emperor Charles IV, in advance, the transfer of the Jews' property and absolution for whatever might befall them. This was therefore not an outburst but an urban planning operation, carried out with the written consent of the sovereign who was supposed to protect them.
