The Shoah (1939–1945)
Roundup of Brussels
sept. 1942·Bruxelles
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The Jewish quarters of Brussels are sealed at night and their inhabitants led to Malines.
In Brussels, the occupier carried out a raid in the neighborhoods where immigrant Jewish families were concentrated, around the Gare du Midi and in Anderlecht. Since the mayor and the local police had refused to take part in the arrests, the operation was conducted by the German police and their auxiliaries. Those arrested were transferred to the Dossin barracks in Malines. The refusal of the Brussels authorities durably slowed the hunt in the capital.
