In mid-September, the German police arrested in Lille, in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, the Jews of the region, the vast majority of them foreigners who had come from Poland to work in the mines and textile industry. The two departments were attached to the German military command in Brussels: the people apprehended therefore did not pass through Drancy but were directed to the Dossin barracks in Malines, in Belgium, from where they were deported to Upper Silesia.
