The Jews of the Charleroi basin are arrested and deported via Malines.
In the industrial basin of Charleroi, where many Jewish families from Poland worked in the garment trade and commerce, the occupier organized roundups to fill the convoys departing from Malines. The arrests also affected the surrounding mining towns. The miners and workers of the *pays noir* hid a significant number of Jewish children in the workers' terraced housing and in the religious institutions of the region.
