Jewish families from Maastricht and Limbourg are arrested and taken to Westerbork; others cross the border or go into hiding.
In Maastricht, in the Dutch province of Limburg, Jewish families were summoned and then transported to Westerbork. The proximity of the Belgian border allowed some to cross clandestinely into Belgium, sometimes with the help of smugglers on both sides of the Meuse; others were arrested along the way. The community, which possessed an ancient synagogue and cemetery, lost the greater part of its members.
