The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Kosava ghetto

été 1942·Kosava

Toll
plus d'un millier de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The inhabitants of the ghetto are led to a neighbouring estate and shot at the edge of ditches; the hamlet, burned in the same weeks, loses with them its wooden synagogue and workshops.

In Kosava, the liquidation of the enclosed quarter is accompanied by the burning of the town, whose wooden houses burn with some of their inhabitants. Those who flee the flames are shot down in the streets and gardens; the others are led to the pits in the surrounding area. The synagogue and the community archives disappear in the same fire, depriving the town of its written Memory.
