Labor camps of Drenthe
1942·Drenthe
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Jewish men from the Netherlands are sent to the labor camps of the Drenthe heath before being deported with their families.
In the province of Drenthe, the occupier opens a series of labor camps where Jewish men from the Netherlands are imprisoned, employed in clearing heathland and digging canals. The summonses are issued by the Jewish council in the form of a work order. In the autumn, all these camps are emptied on the same night and their occupants taken to Westerbork, where they are immediately joined by their families, arrested at the same moment: the labor had served only to gather them together.
