été 1942·Stowbtsy
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The community of the city on the Niemen is shot in two waves, at the edge of pits dug in a nearby wood; young people who had dug a tunnel under a ghetto house escape and join the partisans of Naliboki forest.
At Stowbtsy, on the Niémen, a group of young people from the enclosed quarter had dug a tunnel beneath a house on the perimeter, opening onto the outer gardens. On the day of the liquidation, several dozen people entered it and made their way to the forest; the rest of the population was led to the pits. The escapees joined the armed detachments in the surrounding area, and their accounts were used to reconstruct the course of that day.
