The Jews of Assen, neighboring the Westerbork camp, are arrested and deported.
Assen, capital of Drenthe, saw its community summoned and transported to Westerbork, located only a few dozen kilometers away. The proximity of the camp, established before the war to receive German refugees, made the deportation of the province's Jews particularly swift. The synagogue of Assen was emptied and repurposed; the community, attested since the seventeenth century, never reconstituted itself.
