The Jewish quarter of Tolède was starved during the siege of the city, in the Castilian civil war.
The community of Tolède was the oldest and most prestigious in Spain, that of the Abravanel and the Ha-Levi; it remained loyal to King Pierre until the end, and paid for that choice with famine, and then with a war contribution that ruined it. It is from this point that the decline of Castilian Judaism dates.
