Vinnytsia, capitale régionale de Podolie, abritait une importante communauté juive attestée dès le XVIe siècle. Au XIXe siècle, les Juifs représentaient une proportion significative de la population et jouaient un rôle majeur dans le commerce et l'artisanat. Lors de la Shoah, des milliers de Juifs de Vinnytsia furent assassinés par les Einsatzgruppen et les forces roumaines en 1941.
