Oasis de la Djérid dans le gouvernorat de Tozeur (Tunisie sud-occidentale), Tozeur possède des inscriptions antiques attestant une présence juive ancienne, confirmée par des sources médiévales décrivant une communauté active dans le commerce caravanier transsaharien. La communauté moderne déclina sous le Protectorat français et émigra après l'indépendance (1956).
