Principale ville de Vojvodine, Subotica (Szabadka en hongrois) accueillit une communauté juive florissante aux XVIIIe–XXe siècles, réunissant Séfarades et Ashkénazes. La grande synagogue Art Nouveau construite en 1902 par les architectes Komor et Jakab, l'une des plus remarquables d'Europe, témoigne de la prospérité de cette communauté.
