Roman, ville de Moldavie roumaine (département de Neamț), possédait l'une des plus anciennes communautés juives de la région, attestée dès le XVIIe siècle. Les Juifs y constituaient une part importante de la population aux XIXe–XXe siècles, animant le commerce et l'artisanat. La Shoah et l'émigration ultérieure réduisirent considérablement la communauté.
