Polotsk

Polotsk is an ancient city in northern Belarus (region of Vitebsk), on the Western Dvina, one of the oldest urban centers of the region. Jewish presence is documented there since the 14th century. Polotsk was a notable center of Jewish life in the Pale of Settlement, with important communal institutions and commercial activities. The community was almost entirely annihilated during the Shoah in 1941–1942.
